I just got back from the centre of the universe as Torontonian’s see it. Oddly enough, it kind of is the centre of the universe for Canadian manufacturing. More specifically, I was the Blackburn Young representative on co-sponsored Global/Blackburn Young trip to Global’s Head Office, National Showroom and Canadian Manufacturing facilities. I along with Jack Drummond from Global and designers from Ashley-Pryce Interiors, Kasian, Red Design and SSDG was chauffeured to the spectacular Global Group Centre were we visited with founder and owner of Saul Feldberg then set of on a tour of manufacturing facilities, test labs design centres and the recently re-designed 18,000 square foot showroom.
We were all very impressed – and that’s something for someone who’s seen the manufacturing in Michigan and the furniture extravaganza that is NEOCON! As much as I appreciated the vast manufacturing capabilities obvious in buildings so large you couldn’t see the opposite end them, I was most impressed with the quality and the design of the products. The highlights had to be the adaptable Boulevard System 3 and the new storage based system, Floorplay. As it turns out, the Research Section of our site has grown quite popular! In working with mid to large size companies, it seems one of the common concepts that keeps surfacing is "Collaboration” More specifically, how can an organization create an environment that promotes collaboration. On the surface this seems relatively simple, but as you begin to dive further into the subject, you are instantly challenged with conflicting concepts such as: privacy, acoustics, and workstation size to name a few. These are real issues and need to be taken into account.
You see, the space planning and furniture are just part of the overall solution. Some argue it's the psychology of creating collaborative spaces which is the greater of challenges facing organizations. This is where our "Research Section" can come in handy. Under the topic of "Migration Strategy" we've posted fantastic articles such as: Making Room for Collaboration and Private to Open Spectrum. These articles take a bird’s eye view approach on facilities and its employees. Primarily the articles in our Migration Strategy address the psychology of the employees and the effect in which the facility has on them.
If a picture's worth a thousand words, then I guess a video must be worth a million. As menioned in previous posts, Global Total Office has recently released Zira; a modern, and contemporary casegood line that marries functionallity with a high level of design. In an effort to show the planning possibilies with Zira, Global has just released this video. We are excited to introduce the Global Zira casegood series to the Vancouver market place and can't wait to hear your feedback!
After months of anticipation, the Allseating Ray chair is finally ready for order entry. This chair received unprecidented reviews at Neocon 2009 and is widely regarded as best chair in class for the conference and exectutive seating categories. We are excited to add this to our product offering. What makes the Allseating Ray chair unique is the combination of it's detailed aethetics, high level of comfort & adjustability. Normally a chair of this calibur is priced towards the upper mid market, however the Ray chair starts at only $425.00!
Ray was designed in response to the proliferation of exoskeleton designs in the marketplace. The goal was to create a chair in the post-modern tradition with clean, simple lines.
A design that reacts to the user.
The rational design profile was integrated with the React™ mechanism, a self-weighing mechanism that adjusts the tilt tension based on the weight of the user. This makes it ideal for multiple users and multiple settings: from the boardroom to the executive office.
