Spec is working with BIFMA International, the recognized leader in developing standards for the North American office and institutional furniture industry. BIFMA has developed a new sustainability-focused standard for commercial furniture called level which takes a holistic view on what it means to be an earth friendly manufacturer. level is the sustainability standard and third-party certification program for the furniture industry. It has been created to deliver the most open and transparent means of evaluating and communicating the environmental and social impacts of furniture products in the built environment.

level goes far beyond Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and takes into account how a product is sustainable from multiple perspectives, such as a company’s social actions, energy usage, material selection and human and ecosystem health impacts.

level is a very high standard, and Spec is committed to continuous improvement to meet this standard.
