 r e n e w :: a b i l i t y - Renewing our commitment to reuse and recycle.

“Re-.” That little prefix gets used in some very big ways at KI. To us, responsibility to our planet isn’t something to be carried out once; it has to be pursued continually, in every way possible, over and over again.

Throughout our manufacturing processes, we recycle, refurbish, reuse and reconfigure whatever materials and machinery we can — paper, steel, plastics, foam, fabrics and promising new media. Solvent-based paints have been steadily replaced with water-based or powder substitutes. And, KI designs products with recyclable components wherever possible. We continually seek innovative ways to introduce more products into recycling programs, and we’re working to make all our resources renewable.

Through uncompromising renewal efforts, we’re reinventing expectations about what’s possible for the future.

s u s t a i n :: a b i l i t y - Partnering to sustain our environment

Translating good intentions into great realities, KI proudly demonstrates its environmental leadership. We partner with architects and designers to create sustainable workplaces and spaces as defined by LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, the LEED rating system is the definitive green standard. It evaluates and recognizes buildings and interiors that are healthy and environmentally responsible, throughout their life cycles. KI employees are encouraged to attain LEED Accredited Professional certification to help our customers and partners understand and meet the requirements for achieving high-performance, sustainable buildings. We continue to educate ourselves about better environmental approaches, and eagerly share our increasing knowledge about the whole building experience.

By putting sustainability into practice, we’re following a natural course to environmental performance.

r e s p e c t :: a b i l i t y - Earning respect for meeting our environmental obligations.

Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try, and at KI, we’ve tried to make environmental stewardship a daily walk. We’ve demonstrated our commitment through years of performance, recognized by our community. We don’t do it for the recognition – we do it because it’s the right thing to do – but the respect we’ve garnered drives us to continually improve our efforts. Over the past 10 years, KI has received numerous awards for our respect for the environment including:

  • Prevention/Environment/Prosperity Award presented by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
  • Wisconsin Business Friend of the Environment Award for Pollution Prevention presented by the Wisconsin

Environmental Working Group®

  • Wisconsin Governor's Award for Excellence in Environmental Performance
  • Wisconsin Governor's Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction
